School Policies
Studio Policies
Students of the International City School of Ballet are expected to maintain the highest standard of discipline. Poor conduct will not be tolerated. Consistent student misconduct may result in dismissal from the School and forfeiture of tuition. • The School is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. • No horseplay or loud talking is allowed when classes are in session. If parents are sitting in the lobby, the School asks that the conversation volume be held to an absolute minimum. Guests acting in a manner that distracts our students will be asked to leave the premises immediately. • No food or drink (other than water) is allowed in the studio. This rule also applies to guests waiting in the lobby area. • No running is allowed anywhere in the facility. • Parents who bring siblings of dancers to the studio must control their child/children at all times. • No one (dancers or parents) is allowed to sit at the Lobby desk without explicit permission of the Artistic Director. • The facility will open to students 30 minutes before classes are scheduled to begin. Parents are asked to pick up their children promptly at the end of class. When classes have finished for the evening any dancer who remains at the studio more than 10 minutes after class has adjourned will go home with the Artistic Director. • The School's dress code is strictly observed and enforced. Any dancer who does not conform to the dress code will not be permitted to take class. • Dancers enrolled in Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet and Ballet I must wait in their designated area for their teaching assistant to bring them to their classroom. • No dancer is to leave the studio until their designated ride arrives. • Students must be covered at all times when entering and exiting the studio. Tardy Policy • Any dancer who is tardy to class after the music has started must wait for the music to stop before entering the studio. • Any dancer who is more than 15 minutes late will participate in class by writing down every combination given during the class period and provide it to the instructor when class is completed. • If a dancer is going to be more than 15 minutes late to class the School should be notified at least two hours before the class begins. This can be done by calling the studio and leaving a message on the answering machine. Absence Policy Any dancer who will be absent may make up the missed class. Please speak with the dancer's Instructor for the make-up class day and time. Class & Studio Etiquette The Etiquette for the ballet class is one full of common courtesy and social consideration. By nature a good ballet class must command respect for the Instructor and the Art. This implies such courtesies as not slouching at the barre while the Instructor sets a combination, not speaking out of turn, beginning and ending a classroom exercise in a sustained poised position of readiness, and curtsying or bowing to the Instructor at the end of class. Attention to these disciplines carries over and adds clarity and precision to a student’s class work. In order for your dancer to progress and acquire discipline they should be at their class promptly. It is preferred they arrive five to ten minutes before class begins. If any of these rules are violated there will be consequences imposed at discretion of the Artistic Director. • Show appreciation of class at all times • Teachers will be respected at all times. • Students will respect all other students, including the property of other students. • No sitting during class. • There will be no gum or candy in class. • No student will hang on the dance barres for any reason. • No food or drink (other than water) is allowed in the studios. • Mirrors will not be touched for any reason. • There will be no talking at any time in class unless asked to speak by the Instructor. • Dancers may not be dismissed from class at any time without the permission of the Instructor. • Dancers may not show any kind of disruptive behavior while in class, waiting for class, or leaving the studio. • Dancers and/or parents may not block studio doors, the hallway or other passageways at any time. • Dancer will respect all property and material in the studio. Dancers are not allowed to operate any equipment without the Instructor’s explicit permission. • Dancers will come to class prepared according to the dress code and have a positive "ready-to-learn" attitude. Please contact the Artistic Director with any questions or concerns about the policies of the School. |
